Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you (the parent or legal guardian holding the account) and HopFocus. By creating an account you agree to them.
Who can hold an account
You must be 18 or over and the parent or legal guardian of each child you add. You are responsible for supervising your children's use of HopFocus and for keeping your password and parent PIN private.
Subscriptions, trial and cancellation
- New families get a 7-day free trial. A payment card is required to start the trial, and billing begins when the trial ends unless you cancel first.
- After the trial, the plan you chose renews automatically each month until you cancel. Prices are shown in New Zealand dollars and include GST where applicable.
- You can cancel at any time from Billing. Cancelling stops future charges; access continues to the end of the paid period. We don't generally refund part-months, but if something has gone wrong, contact us and we'll sort it out.
- If a payment fails, we'll email you and may pause access until the card is updated.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice by email; you can cancel before the change takes effect.
What HopFocus is — and isn't
HopFocus is an AI-powered tutoring aid aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum. Lessons are generated by artificial intelligence and can occasionally be wrong or pitched slightly off. It is not a registered school, not a substitute for a registered teacher, and not a diagnostic or clinical service. Parent supervision is expected.
The homeschool tools help you prepare and record your own information. They are general assistance only, not legal or official advice, and we cannot guarantee that any exemption application will be approved by the Ministry of Education. Always check the Ministry's current requirements.
Acceptable use
- Use HopFocus for your own family's learning only — don't share your account.
- Don't attempt to break, scrape, resell, reverse engineer or overload the service.
- Don't upload content that is unlawful, harmful, or that belongs to someone else without permission.
- We may suspend an account that breaches these terms or puts other users at risk.
Content and intellectual property
HopFocus, including Hop, the app, its design and its curriculum sequencing, belongs to us. Work your child creates stays yours; you give us permission to process it only to run the service (for example, marking an answer or producing your parent report). Printable packs you generate are yours to use for your own family.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply. Otherwise, to the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, including educational outcomes or the result of any exemption application.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we look after it, including that lesson content is processed by overseas AI providers.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; we'll update the date above and email account holders about significant changes. These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Questions? Email hello@hopfocus.co.nz.
